Brand Story — Portland, Oregon
Counter Culture
Overview
Counter Culture Goods, a ten-year-old independent retailer, needed a launch film for their first own-label line. The brief was to show the hands behind the shelves — sourcing, stitching, folding, selling — and to give a neighborhood shop the visual weight of a national campaign.
The film pairs a sit-down founder interview with macro craft footage and slow in-store dolly moves, graded warm against the shop's navy and timber palette. Paid and organic cuts ran across the launch month.
The Challenge
A shop that photographs flat
The store's mixed lighting — warm pendants over cool window spill — photographs muddy on default settings. The plan mapped every fixture, gelled the practicals to match, and shot the hero footage in the two hours when window light flatters the timber shelving.
The Approach
Craft first, shelves second
Instead of an empty-store walkthrough, the film opens on hands: cutting, stitching, tagging. The interview was recorded during trading hours so the shop's real ambience — the door chime, the murmur — sits honestly under the grade.
